At Mandolin Rising Construction, the name carries deep meaning. It’s a part of our story—one that began not with a business plan, but with a dream that wouldn’t leave us alone.
A Dream That Stuck
Lishbeth Hughes had a dream that never left her.
In the dream, she was knocking on doors, calling out a strange phrase:
“Mandolin Rising! Mandolin Rising!”
She woke up confused. What did it mean? Why did it feel important? When she asked her husband Torey if he knew what the phrase 'mandolin rising' was, he said he didn’t. Later, he admitted he knew that a mandolin was a unique musical instrument. Still, neither of them understood the full meaning at the time.
But the phrase lingered.
A Season of Decision
Not long after, the Hughes family found themselves at a crossroads. Torey, an experienced contractor, had a choice to make: take a steady job working for someone else, or step out in faith and start his own construction business from the ground up.
It wasn’t an easy decision. Starting a business meant risk, hard work, and uncertainty. But it also meant the freedom to create, to lead, and to serve clients with the care and craftsmanship Torey was known for.
Lishbeth encouraged him to pray about it. Her advice was simple:
"Just try. If you don’t like it, at least we’ll know we tried."
And Then, the Name
When it came time to name the business, Lishbeth didn’t hesitate.
“The name is Mandolin Rising Construction,” she told Torey. And just like that, everything clicked.
The mandolin, like every well-built home or project, is a finely tuned instrument. It requires attention to detail, a steady hand, and the soul of a craftsman. You don’t just assemble it—you shape it, string it, and bring it to life.
“Rising” represents more than growth—it’s about taking a step upward, trusting in the journey, and allowing something new and beautiful to take shape. It echoed the faith they were placing in this new beginning.
